Interventional Radiology
What is an Interventional Radiologist?
Interventional radiologists are physicians who have special
training to diagnose and treat illnesses and conditions using
tiny, miniaturized tools while watching their progress on
x-ray (fluoroscopy) or other imaging equipment. They perform
such procedures as angiograms (viewing arteries), angioplasty
(opening of blocked artery using balloon), and needle biopsies
(insertion of needle into abnormal area to remove tissue
for testing).
Interventional radiology is also performed as a contract
service for other medical professionals.
