MRA (Magnetic Resonance Angiography)
MRA is an MRI, which provides detailed images of the blood
vessels. It is particularly useful in evaluating the carotid
arteries in the neck, the Circle of Willis in the brain,
and the abdominal aorta and its branches. It can be used
to check for blockages, stenosis or aneurysms. It is often
used to evaluate the renal arteries in patients with elevated
blood pressure. An injection of contrast material is usually
required to visualize the blood vessels. The procedure is
painless, and the magnetic field is not known to cause tissue
damage of any kind.
